Steller's Jay

I'll tell you bedtime stories
how we came to be
I'll sing away all your worries
so no one can see
I am the bird who took the darkness
and squired it away
flew to miracle sunrises and started the day

I'll hover in the thunder storm while
you are sleeping under warmth, I'll
curl around the raindrops so fast
up until the pain stops at last
I'll believe in anything that helps
I'll believe in anything
I am the bird that went to hell
and learned right from wrong
found a way to stitch a nightmare
into some kind of song

I used to only write stories
of lovers in cages
I would fill all my journals
til I ran out of pages
and then I started wondering
if there were other stories I could tell
the nightmares I was numbering
maybe only strengthening my shell
that's why I've flown so far
just to bring you the news
I am the first bird of morning
the steller's jay
ready or not
