Apple Seed
by Nick Jaina
Now I'm just hanging on the vine
now I'm just hanging on the vine
now I'm just digging in the salt mines
I'm just digging in the salt mines
and someday I'll drink that cherry wine
now I'm just doing what I'm told
now I'm just standing in the cold
under buckets full of rain
under buses under trains
I'll wait for someone to say
I will tell you but you won't believe me
about the day I felt the spirit leave me
I got an apple seed stuck in my teeth
from which grew a beautiful tree
I was just hanging on the vine
I'm not hanging on the vine
I was just digging in the salt mines
I'm not digging in the salt mines
I'll hold the fork, you pluck the tine
I was just doing what I's told
I was just standing in the cold
now I'm not waiting in the snow
I'm not waiting in the snow
I'll sing the only song I really know
I fed my family from that tree's fruit
it grew so big I had to sleep on the roof
you will say I'm from a blessed breed
but it all sprang from that apple seed
