True Hearts Are International As War
by Nick Jaina
there's only one thing I would ever steal
and I would steal it for our wedding day
though I know that day will never come
it's a cross carved out of abalone
it's in a box in Central California
though it should be around your neck
I hesitate to knock on your door
true hearts are as international as war
the speaker turned so it faces the floor
true hearts are as international as war
I say my prayers I know my prayers don't count
and that my faith is just the wrong amount
there's always someone praying more
I found that cross in a mission well
it cast me out of a prison cell
but they took it, tagged it, and boxed it up
the ribbons tie up the shirt that I tore
true hearts are as international as war
they never wonder what patience is for
true hearts are as international as war
